Afterschool Academic Enrichment

The P.E.A.C.E. Afterschool Program, Inc., Afterschool Program is designed as a continued effort to engage students in activities that build critical thinking skills and positive decision making. The daily schedule  provides homework assistance and academic enrichment. Tutoring is supported through SEL/Character Development, Healthy Habits, Financial Literacy, Decision Making/Saying No to Gangs, and STEAM- Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math focused activities. Regularly scheduled  character building workshops provide mentoring and positive engagement with students helping children to say no to gangs.   A continuation of the Nassau County District Attorney's initiative for crime reduction in the Terrace/Bedell neighborhood in Hempstead, New York, the Afterschool Program provides a safe, supervised area where children can build literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking. Chess, FIRST LEGO League robotics, chapter book reading, and build academic skills during the "prime crime time" hours of 3:30 pm- 6:30 pm. Through partnerships with Adelphi University, the Hempstead Police Department, the African American Museum of Nassau County, Hispanic Counseling Center, the Nassau County Department of Parks and Recreation, Island Harvest, Nassau County Girl Scouts of America, and  many others, students in the P.E.A.C.E. Afterschool Program continue to build upon the gains made during the summer to strengthen character, and develop strategies to help them avoid gang involvement, violence, drugs, and guns and negative involvement with the criminal justice system as they mature. Our program is a Learning Center and NOT a Child Day Care center.

Summer Camp

A continuation of the Nassau County District Attorney's initiative for crime reduction in the Terrace/Bedell neighborhood in Hempstead, New York, the P.E.A.C.E. Afterschool Program, Inc., Summer Enrichment Camp was approved for operation by the Nassau County Department of Health Children's Camp Program in 2011 with the first camp taking place in summer 2012 serving 75 campers.  Inspectors have observed firsthand the clean, inviting teaching and learning environment with properly trained personnel. The program was specifically designed as a continued effort to engage students in learning and fun! The program  provides a supervised diversion from harmful street activity, fully engaging children in educationally and developmentally beneficial activities from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm daily. Students  build skills, and respect for themselves and others through improved literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking exercises designed to help them reject gang involvement, violence, drugs, and guns and avoid negative involvement with the criminal justice system as they mature. Each year's inquiry based theme for  summer camp has been exciting!
